Best Welding Helmet Brands Compared
The best welding helmet brands, judged on what they actually publish, are Lincoln Electric, ESAB and Miller: all three document optical class, sensors and certifications for their helmets. The single highest-scoring helmet from any brand is the Jackson Safety Premium Graphics ADF (fixed shade 10).
Below, every brand we checked, how many of its products we rank, and how many have manufacturer-confirmed certifications. Brands with three or more ranked products get their own page.

Hobart welding helmets
The best Hobart welding helmet on Amazon is the Hobart Inventor (Black) (model 770890): Hobart's spec sheet confirms four sensors, a 100 × 60 mm view and ANSI Z87.1-2015, CSA and EN 379. It's our best welding helmet for the money.
Hobart welding helmets on Amazon now: the Inventor in several graphics. The Hobart Creator welding helmet line has been discontinued (retailers say it was replaced by Hobart's PRO series), and the Hobart Impact welding helmet and Hobart Pillar welding helmet didn't appear in our Amazon search for Hobart helmets, so Hobart doesn't pass our three-product rule for a separate brand page.
Hobart welding hood and Hobart welding mask: Hobart's own hood/mask range on Amazon is passive and flip-front models; the 770257 flip-lens helmet has no Hobart-published standard we could find. The Hobart auto darkening welding helmet to buy is the Inventor.
Hobart welding shield and parts: Hobart sells replacement headgear (770843) and lights; see welding helmet accessories.
ArcCaptain welding helmets
ArcCaptain welding helmets are cheap and popular; we rank the ArcCaptain Auto-Darkening Helmet 4/9-13 and ArcCaptain 180° Panoramic Hood. ArcCaptain's product pages couldn't be read when we checked, so every safety spec is from the listing and shown as not confirmed.
Optrel
Swiss maker Optrel publishes thorough data: the Optrel crystal 2.0 (silver) has the brightest light state we found (shade 2.0), and Optrel itself rates it 1/1/1/2. Its e3000X PAPR is our best PAPR welding helmet.
ESAB
The ESAB Sentinel A60 has the largest 1/1/1/1 window we could verify and the longest certification list. It's our best auto-darkening helmet.
Jackson Safety
Jackson makes very light shells: the Jackson Safety Insight Digital Variable ADF (HLX shell) (1/1/1/1), the Jackson Safety HLX 100 Passive and the Jackson Safety PL280 Pipeline Helmet, plus the graphic Jackson Safety Premium Graphics ADF (fixed shade 10).
DeWalt welding helmet
DeWalt welding helmets come up in searches, but DeWalt wasn't part of this research round, so we haven't checked its specs and don't rank one yet. For a similar price, see the best welding helmet for the money.
