Who the Optrel crystal 2.0 with e3000X PAPR is for — and who should skip it

Buy it if: Production welders on galvanised or stainless, or in poorly ventilated spaces, who need powered respiratory protection.

Skip it if: Occasional welders — a low-profile P100 half mask under a standard helmet costs a fraction.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Optrel US states the e3000X is NIOSH-certified; TH3 HEPA filter
  • Three airflow levels: 170, 210 and 240 l/min
  • Up to 18 h battery; helmet has the crystal 2.0's shade 2.0 light state

Cons

  • $600+ — about four Viking 3350s
  • Optrel's page gives no NIOSH TC approval number — ask the seller
  • Helmet lens is 1/1/1/2 with a 50 × 100 mm window

Our review

Optrel's US page describes the e3000X as certified by NIOSH, with a TH3 (EN 12941) HEPA filter, three airflow levels of at least 170, 210 and 240 l/min, up to 18 hours of battery and a 1,560 g blower unit including filter, belt and battery. It does not print a TC approval number, so ask the seller for the NIOSH approval label before relying on it at work.

The helmet is the crystal 2.0: shade 2.0 light state, autopilot 4–12, 1/1/1/2 and a 50 × 100 mm view.

It is the only PAPR we found that was new, in stock and sold by an established welding supplier; the Lincoln and Miller systems either had no ratings, one unit, or unclear US approvals.
